Frequently Asked Questions
What happens in counselling?
Each session offers space to talk freely about what’s been happening for you. We’ll explore your thoughts, feelings, and patterns at your own pace, with warmth and curiosity. Sessions are confidential unless I'm concerned for yours or someone else's safety, in which case I'm bound, legally, to share.
How can counselling help me?
Counselling can bring more understanding and calm into your life. Having someone really listen, without judgement, It can help you make sense of confusing feelings, ease anxiety or stress. It can also give you tools to live a more fulfilling, happier life where you feel more balanced and in control.
How long are sessions, how often do we meet and how many sessions do I need?
Sessions last 50 minutes and usually take place weekly. We can adjust the frequency as needed. Regular sessions help build a sense of safety and continuity, which supports deeper and more sustainable change.
Everyone's process is different. Some people find short-term work helpful, while others value longer-term support. We’ll review together as we go, so the therapy always fits your needs.
What does “trauma-informed” mean?
Being trauma-informed means I work with awareness of how your body and mind respond to stress or past experiences. I’ll always prioritise safety and choice — so you stay in control of the pace, the focus, and what feels comfortable to explore.
Will I have to talk about difficult or traumatic experiences straight away?
No. You will never be pushed to talk about anything before you feel ready. We can start by focusing on helping you feel more grounded and making sense of what’s happening in the present.
Do I need to have experienced trauma to come to counselling?
No. You don’t need a particular reason or diagnosis to begin counselling. Some people come to understand long-standing patterns; others simply want to feel less overwhelmed or more connected. Whatever brings you is welcome here.
Do you offer in-person and online sessions?
Yes, Sessions are held in my counselling practice based in Alexandra Park, Lower Parktone, Poole, Dorset or they can also be online via Google Meets.
Do I need to know what to say?
No. Many people start therapy feeling unsure about where to begin. We can take things at your pace and work out together what feels important.
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get a sense of what’s bringing you to therapy and what you might like support with. You don’t need to prepare anything in advance. It’s also an opportunity to see how it feels talking together.
How much are sessions?
50 minute sessions cost £55 each or blocks of 5 sessions at £250
Can the sessions be in Spanish?
Yes. I offer counselling in both English and Spanish, so you can express yourself in whichever language feels most natural.
