What is counselling like with me?

Counselling with me is collaborative, steady and paced around what feels manageable for you.

There is no expectation to talk about anything before you feel ready. For many people, the first focus is simply on feeling safe and more grounded and making sense of what is happening in their thoughts, emotions and body.

I work in a trauma-informed way, which means I pay attention to how past experiences and current stress can affect how safe or settled someone feels. We go at your pace, and you stay in control of what you choose to explore.

Alongside talking therapy, I may help you notice how emotions show up physically, such as tension, restlessness or shutdown, and explore gentle ways of working to notice and alieviate this through gentle breathwork and grounding where needed.

As an Integrative Humanistic therapist, I draw on a range of approaches depending on what feels helpful, including person-centred therapy,Internal Family Systems (IFS), Transactional Analysis Somatics and Gestalt.

In early sessions, we usually focus on understanding what has brought you to therapy, what you would like to change, and what support feels right for you.

Sessions can be online or can take place in my counselling room in Lower Parkstone, Poole in Dorset.
